New tourist guide on Jewish history and heritage in Lithuania

As a result of the initiative of the Lithuanian based ‘Turizmo Plėtros Institutas’ (Institute of Tourism Development), the new tourist guide ‘Let’s explore Jewish History and Heritage in Lithuania’ has now been published.

The preparation and publication of this guide was sponsored by ‘Geros Valios Fondas’ (Good Will Foundation), ‘Turizmo Plėtros Institutas’ and private enterprises.

The guide presents the ten most important Jewish historical and cultural heritage sites (museums, synagogues and memorials), which are open for tourists to visit, and located in attractive tourist destinations such as Vilnius, Kaunas, Kėdainiai, Šiauliai and Joniškis.

In addition to describing these ten sites, there is information about local Jewish communities, Tourism Information Centres and other places of interest.

Through this publication, ‘Turizmo Plėtros Institutas’ seeks to contribute to the promotion of the unique and special historical and cultural heritage of the Lithuanian Jews (Litvaks), and foster the ideals of tolerance and respect for ethnic minorities.

The guide also represents Lithuania becoming a part of the European Route of Jewish Heritage created by the European Association for the Preservation and Promotion of Jewish Culture and Heritage (AEPJ) under the auspices of the Council of Europe.

The PDF version of the guide will be available soon at the "publications" section of the AEPJ website
