In October 2007, an Official Commemorating Ceremony was held at Santiago de Compostela (Spain), to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the first European Cultural Route: the Jacobean Route.

After this first Cultural Route of the Council of Europe, which traces the different paths of pilgrims who made their journey from different parts of Europe to Santiago de Compostela., 23 other routes have followed, such as the \'Mozart Route\', the \'Via Francigena\', or the \'Route of the Castilian Language and its expansion along the Mediterranean: the routes of the Sephardim\'.
The European Route of Jewish Heritage was being recognized as such by the Council of Europe (see pertinent news article below in this section) in 2005.

The main ceremony took place on October 23rd at the Obradoiro Square, Santiago, presented by the head of the Tourism department of the Xunta of Galicia, R.Lois. The new declaration of the Cultural Routes of the Council of Europe, which had been composed at the \"Symposium 20th Anniversary of the Cultural Routes of the European Council\" held at Le-Puy-en-Vélay last September, was read publicly, stressing the need to establish a cooperating network between the 24 Cultural Routes of the Council of Europe, paying special attention to \"respecting and valuating cultural diversity and dialogue between religions\".
Big panels featuring an exhibition on the Jacobean Route, as well as on the other 23 routes, were headed: \"EUROPE IS THE WAY\".

Representatives of both B\'nai B\'rith Europe and Network of Spanish Jewish Quarters, two of the member organisations of the AEPJ, were present at the ceremonies and took part in the international conference on the different Cultural Routes, sharing and exchanging their experiences of management of their routes.
