Preparations for the European Day of Jewish Culture 2009
This year, the event will take place on September 6th, with the subject matter: \"CELEBRATIONS AND TRADITIONS\"
During the International Workshop on the European Route of Jewish Heritage, held in the Spanish town of Oviedo last November, one of the main subjects has been the European Day of Jewish Culture 2009, which will take place as each year on the first Sunday of September. One of the main decisions made during the workshop concerned the subject matter of this year\'s edition. Since such a great number of interesting proposals there were made, it was agreed to submit the question to voting.
All national coordinators were contacted by e-mail and were asked to make their choice among the numerous subjects proposed, such as:
Women/ Childhood/ Celebrations and Traditions/ Languages/ Interculturality/ Diaspora/ Crossed Destinies/ Creativity and Innovation/ Dialogue/ Literature/ The Jewish contribution to the construction of Europe/ Sustainability and Environment.
11 countries- France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Lithuania, Poland, Serbia, Slovenia, Spain, Turkey and United Kingdom- presented their votes, resulting in \"Celebrations and Traditions\" being chosen as the subject matter for 2009.
Another point of debate was whether to keep or change the design of the EDJC poster. It was finally decided to update the image, encouraging everyone to hand in proposals at the AEPJ secretariat (aepj@jewisheriage.org )
In order to achieve a greater involvement of the participating countries, an executive committee for the EDJC was appointed: representatives of Czech Republic, France, Italy, Slovakia, Spain and the AEPJ are the members of this committee, whose first meeting is scheduled for the end of March 2009.
