Welcome on board to our new members!
Every year, the members of the AEPJ report their work to the General Assembly, as mandated by our charter, introducing as well the new projects for the following year. However, our General Assembly is also an opportunity to evaluate the new applications received, to present them and to decide if they should be approved or not. This year we had the pleasure to welcome three new members into the AEPJ family and we would like to take this opportunity to present them.
Travel to Live
Travel to Live is a tour operator and travel company based in Transylvania / Banat, in the city of Timisoara, one of the most vibrant centers of multiculturalism in Europe. Jewish life in this part of the world left an important impact on the economics and social fabric of the cities.
One of our important missions is to promote Jewish heritage in Transylvania to people all over the world, Jews and non-Jews alike, but also to raise the awareness locally of past and present Jewish presence. We are building and developing a network of museums, institutions, NGOs and professionals who are actively involved in revealing, promoting and preserving Jewish heritage in all important centers of Jewish life and history in Transylvania.
The Burgenländische Forschungsgesellschaft - Research Society Burgenland (BFG) was founded in 1987 as a regional research and educational institution at the interface between science and adult education. Its goal is the advancement of education, science and research in a structurally weak, rural and peripheral border region. As a regional research institute, the BFG supports institutions and decision-makers in Burgenland in analysing, developing and preparing current topics in the areas of education, culture and society and acts as an important interface to national and European educational policy discussion and research.
The research results are published in the form of publications, studies or project reports and communicated to experts, politicians, multipliers and the media through symposia, conferences, workshops, or websites. In the field of contemporary history and civic education, the BFG's expertise lies in the history of Judaism in Burgenland. In this context and next to other projects, the BFG has organized and coordinated the European Days of Jewish Culture in Burgenland since 2014.

The Parallel Traces exhibition opens in Sighet, Romania
We are very excited to announce that Parallel Traces exhibitions and events are back, and we are getting ready to launch the next one in a few weeks!
In November, the Parallel Traces exhibition will travel to Sighet, Romania. The experience has been updated of course, given our current limitations caused by the global pandemic. The physical exhibition will be limited-access, reservation only basis. However, there will be an all-access digital tour of the exhibition in the online launch event which will be held on November 15th. We hope you will join us!
The online program will include a guided tour to the exhibition with Alina Marincean, program coordinator of Tarbut Foundation. Guest Artists Daniel Grunfeld from Romania and Israel Ariño from Spain will be featured and will engage with the Project’s Artistic Director Rosa Juanco in a virtual conversation about their artistic process. |

The European Days of Jewish Culture 2021 under the umbrella of the NOA project
The European Days of Jewish Culture this year takes the opportunity to be under the umbrella of the European project NOA (Networks Overcoming Antisemitism). Being part of NOA will allow this pan-European festival coordinated by the AEPJ to strengthen its participants and grow as a festival. The theme of the festival to be held in September 2021 will be:
INTERCULTURAL DIALOGUE
We will have a group of experts in multicultural dialogue who will assist, train and advise all the participating institutions to ensure the correct implementation of this year's theme, not only as an aim but also as a method. In addition, this year we will have a budget to ensure the deployment of the materials created by the National Library of Israel in at least 70 European cities. |

Danube Narrative Workshop
 On October 12 and 13, our project manager Federica Pastoret attended the two days’ workshop Transdanube Travel Stories, organised on the framework of the Interreg Danube Transnational Programme.
The project aims to support sustainable tourism development by applying innovative promotion concepts and existing sustainable mobility management tools to cultural routes and networks in the Danube region. As many of our members are from this area, Federica has participated with other experts from all over the Danube macro region in a virtual form.
The aim of the workshop was, to gather ideas for new stories for the Danube and the cultural routes along the Danube and finally to develop new narratives for the Danube. Experts from different fields (tourism, history, culture, literature, experience experts) were invited and presented their ideas for Danube stories and a broad Danube narrative in the workshop. In total around 20 experts from the Danube network from Germany to Serbia were participating at the workshop, which was a great success.
At the workshop, tourism director Georg Steiner presented the concept of telling the story of the Danube in a larger context, but also in an interdisciplinary way with strong essayistic approaches, thus creating the basis for new cultural travel programs. Keynotes from Danube experts dedicated their presentation to the relevance of "Telling the Danube in contexts".

New project, new challenge
Every time we set to work on a new project, we plunge into a new challenge. In the last week we have started working on THE FAB ROUTE project: digital skills to promote EU Cultural Routes.
The project, promoted by the Council of Europe, the University of Bologna and the company ARGO, aims to increase the notoriety of cultural routes at an international level. With the creation of a new model of cooperation we will allow the integration of activities and offers of cultural routes into cultural and tourism service systems. From the AEPJ we are extremely proud to work on this program, as our aims is to develop innovative educational modules through which the members of the cultural routes networks have skills and knowledge in cultural heritage management; project management with a focus on sustainability; audience analysis and development; cultural marketing and branding; governance models; promotion of civic participation, etc. to deepen.

Jewish Transylvania - first steps
While staying at home and not being able to travel, we can be connected to places we plan to visit but also learn about new destinations. The team of Travel to Live are trying to make it easier and more interesting for you. Together with their local partners, experts and guides, they started a series of live online walking tours of cities with a rich Jewish history and heritage in Transylvania, Romania.
Travel to Live first live broadcasts, în Timisoara and Arad, were appreciated by several hundreds of participants from all over the world, which encourages them to continue to bring you new live tours. Follow Travel to Live on their Facebook page to stay up to date with their plans.

Guardians of the Memory in Alsace
The Alsace region in France enjoys a long and deep Jewish history. Since the Middle Ages, Jews have lived throughout the region, including in villages dotted across the countryside. But ever since the Holocaust, most of the region’s remaining Jews have moved into the cities, leaving the village cemeteries unattended - and often vandalized.
Today, both Jewish and non-Jewish volunteers are being mobilized by the Guardians of the Memory association to patrol Alsace’s 67 threatened rural Jewish cemeteries. This network brings together people of different religious denominations or ordinary citizens who were horrified by the desecration of the Jewish cemeteries. To date, more than 60 people - retired teachers, farmers, stay-at-home parents, and students - voluntarily watch over the Alsatian Jewish cemeteries.
An incredible initiative of people working to guard against antisemitism in Europe. You can also register an initiative to be included in the NOA Compass, the first online map of European initiatives combating antisemitism. More in the NOA project webiste.

In the period between June and November 1942, over 50,000 Jews perished at Bronnaya Góra, a mass killing site set in a secluded area along a railroad track. So much of Jewish Belarus remains hidden, and it is the mission of The Together Plan Charity to tell the stories, mark places of memory and give communities a voice. It is with great excitement that 78 years, public signs will finally lead visitors to this important place of memory. Read more in this article.

News from the Catalan Route
One more year, and despite restrictions, one of the main centers of the Catalan Route of Jewish Heritage, Casa Adret, the headquarters of the AEPJ, is one of the most visited buildings during 48h Open House Barcelona. We had more than 1000 visitors during the weekend, to whom we could explain the millenary history of the house, its unique architecture, and the work of Mozaika: one of the major actors that work on the development of the Catalan Route.

The Azerbaijan Tourism Board is in charge of regulation of the activities, development of tourism, and the promotion of Azerbaijan as a destination. Core tasks of ATB include managing Azerbaijan’s destination brand, innovative marketing in the most internationally promising markets, and transferring our knowledge of guests and markets to the domestic tourism industry. Since 2016 joined the AEPJ and they work in a specific itinerary through Jewish local sites.
